You don’t want to be the house that hands out an apple or box of raisins to trick-or-treaters (you’ll gain a reputation in no time!) but you can be the house that puts a healthier—while still fun—spin on Halloween. Instead of candy, try handing out themed prizes such as glow-in-the-dark items, Halloween pens and pencils, fake moustaches, Halloween stickers and stampers, or punch balloons.

If you still want to give out some sweets, hand out organic treats and avoid handing out full-size candy (of any kind). Some candies actually come in multiple sizes, all marketed for Halloween. Not only will mini Hershey bars and the small fun-size Twix bars still offer a sweet bite for fewer calories, smaller treats also will stretch your dollar a little farther. Happy Halloween!
